When I generate a new document in MS Works and save it then open it again, it comes up as a read-only file. Could someone tell me how to get rid of this. Could the template have been mucked around with??? or has someone clicked on something they shouldn't have?

Sounds like someone has save a read only file as the template. Open a new blank file and save it as something memorable then find the file in explorer, right click, select properties and uncheck the read only box - check archive. Now open this file in Works and save as the new template.
