Another Plug In The Wall?

I have been having problems picking up my wi-fi signal in my bedroom. I use my mobile, MacBook and Kindle Fire there. Sometimes the signal is good and I can get on-line. Other times it says that I am out of range.

I have moved the router to a better position but it is still not reliable.

What would be my best option? A powerline adapter or a wi-wi booster?

If I got the powerline adapter how would it actually link up? Would I plug it into my cable modem or router and then stick the plug in the wall? Is it possible to have the other end emit a wi-fi signal?

Have you got a "G" router or an "N" router?

The older G routers did not give a very good signal, the newer "N" routers give a far better signal.

If you don't know post the make and model of the router here and give us an idea how long you have had it.

It is a Belkin F7S13101 v1. I have had it a couple of years - 3 max.

Plus there maybe interference from other networks on the channel that you're using, try changing to a couple of different ones, if the signal is intermittently bad then I'd guess at that, microwave ovens, cordless phones, neighbours wifis can all get in the way.

Could it be something to with the battery being low on the device you are using to connect to the wifi? Can you connect if you move the device closer to the wifi? If yes, how close do you have to be?

The batteries are at 100%. I live in the city centre in a flat and it may be that there is interference from other wi-fi signals that my machines are picking up.

I can, sometimes, get a wifi signal with no problem but it isn't reliable. My flat is on two floors so maybe there is something impeding the signal - but that would happen all the time.

I will look at the paperwork that came with the Belkin later - feeling naff today and it could end in tears if I try to fix it now. :-)
