What is a Protected Storage Server, and why should it be on my system?

Its a Windows service which looks after passwords and usernames, e.g. when you logon to your web based email, you click in the "Enter your email address" box and you get a droplist of entries you've typed. If you've chosen to save your password, it looks after those and helps prevent others from accessing your private information. It must run otherwise IE and other applications won't.
