Wi-Fi And Phone Problem

Our set up is as follows:-
Phone socket in hall-the one Sky said had to be the main phone line
Cordless phone and broadband connected with a filter Sky supplies
Router in livingroom
Desktop in livingroom connected with a wire
Laptop1-mainly downstairs
Laptop2 and other consoles connected upstairs using a repeater.
OK,so everytime the phone gets used the wi-fi goes down,but today when we got a new cordless phone(connected in the hall)the phone line hisses for about 5 seconds then goes clear.
How on earth can we solve these issues?
It was bad enough before with the wi-fi going down,but now it looks like we will have to wait 5 seconds before speaking to anyone when the phone goes,which I am sure will not go down well with most.
Even when I connected the old phone back up,THAT hissed whereas before it had been fine.
What use are these filters anyway?
Any advice would be great,thanks

My cordless phone base in the office is adjacent to the office WiFi router.
My cordless phone base in the house is adjacent to the WiFi repeater.
If your phone and Wifi and interfering with each other you could try setting the router to a different channel.
It's not at all clear from your post whether your old phone was cordless or not.
It's also not very clear whether you have a combined modem/router or separate modem. You say that the phone socket is in the hall, but the router is in the living room, so I'm assuming that you have separates. If not, then it's not clear where, in relation to the router, the filter is.
There are two types of filter: those with a line socket and two other sockets, one for phone the other for modem/router, and those with just line and phone sockets. The former are really just combined splitters and phone filters. As Maydup says, it is only the phone (and every phone) that needs a filter. The modem/router should be connected direct, or through the correct side of a combined splitter/filter.

To be totally honest with you with modem/router placement I thought the router was a modern word for modem so I assume combined.There is a line from the socket in the hall to the router.There is also another line from the hall to the livingroom phone,also cordless which is right next to the router and only cuts the broadband,it never hisses.Then there is the phone line from the hall to the hall(hope that makes sense)all come from one socket in the hall which has a filter and another splitter plugged in where the phone would be so two phones(a cordless and a corded phone)can run.Now even I am confused and I can see it.
Even when a corded phone is plugged in,that has the same problems of cutting the internet and sometimes hissing.
I have read a little about changing the router channel,but when I went to the sky page I could not find where to change the channel,is it just me not knowing where to look or is it possible sky don't want me to change?

Each phone socket that has anything attached to it has to have a filter.
Try the following to find out how to access the router settings. I would do any changes to it from the computer that is connected to it by cable.
