I am having power issues with my sky router, and they have offered to sell me another for £37.99!!
As generous as this offer is,it is slightly beyond me at the moment, and I thought about getting a used one from free ads.Sky say that I can do this, but the router has to be a sky router, other ones will not work on their system they inform me.Anyone know if this is true?

They told me that I can just get another power pack for my existing router,or 'new' router,so I am thinking of trying Preloved,Loot and local papers.Any other ideas for where to get a second hand one?(not eBay)

Thanks for any answers

The router you buy doesn't have to be a Sky one. I phoned Sky a few months ago and they said I could use my own router but they wouldn't offer any support to get it working. The problem you will have is that you need your Sky network login details to put into a non-Sky router. These aren't easily got from your existing router, but there is a website that can generate the information for you, and it worked for me.

I believe the Sky routers are configured to work automatically with their network, so they should plug in and work without any additional setup.
You think that's generous? I would have expected them to supply a new router free, ive never had to pay for a replacement router. Just tell sky that you wish to cancel your contract to go elsewhere for a free router, they will probably give you one, it worked with our sky+ box
Freecycle might be worth checking. Many charity shops seem to have routers in them these days (usually priced between £3 and £10).

During a recent clear out we gave away four brand new routers to charity shops given to us by Talk Talk, every time we had a problem they sent us a new router, even though there was nothing wrong with our current router. They didn't charge either.

Yeah I was being sarcastic with the generous comment!
That is a good idea to try the charity shops, but so many round here wont touch anything that has a plug on it,mainly because they don't want the responsibility of something going wrong.Such a pity.....If I buy something from a charity shop I wouldn't complain if it didn't work-Its a gamble you take I think.

I love looking through the freecycle ads, some of the things people ask for are unbelievably cheeky but well worth a look.

I would love to be brave enough to try getting something out of sky,but I am cr@p on the phone, tinnitus and a stupid memory that forgets words mid sentence do not give me the confidence, but I should the money they have had out of us.Maybe OH will talk to them.

Thanks for your answers,I'm off to search the free ads first
