My DVD recorder has died on me. I've taken the hard drive out and tried to access the contents by connecting it to my computer via a SATA kit (5v -+ and 12v supply and USB out) but my PC won't recognise it. Can I, a) save the contents of the DVD's I've recorded on this drive or, if not, b) format it to use as a separate external drive for my PC.
