also tried a sys restore back to a couple of days ago, still the same :(
Well. if you get the same effect with two different video cards, and it's not software, that pretty much leaves a problem with the monitor. Check that the connection is tight at the monitor end, and if that don't fix it, try a different video lead and/or monitor.
Have you run a Virus Scan.?

hi forgive me if i get your name wrong as its difficult to read, rojash I have just viewed my laptop through my montor and all is fine and am now using another vga lead but still same :( ......aliston I have not done a scan as of now, can an infection cause this shadowing ?
Some other things to try after running a virus scan:

- Start up in Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly during power-on sequence and check if problem is still there or not. If it is not, then there is most likely must some issue with installed Windows drivers / programs
- If not already, try Changing the Screen Resolution to different sizes
- Create another Logon account and logon with that the new id to test with a new profile.
- If you have installed any programs very recently, try uninstalling and restart to check status.
Being infected by a mysterious virus can cause all sorts of strange things to happen. Hence the reason for my suggesting a Virus Scan...... Also a run through with Malwarebytes might help.
