5 digits sounds like a "short code" to me. Are you on the right network that it recognises the number ?
check with your network provider - I'm with O2 and mine does.
under your contract type you may not be able to text a premium site!
Are you on Pay As You Go (maybe you don't have enough credit for what could be an expensive premium rate number)?

I'm with Vodafone, I think cathfromsaron is right! Oh well,
My PAYG phone, with Vodafone, has no problems sending texts to 'short codes' (as those 5 digit numbers are known). Perhaps, at some point now long forgotten, you went online and ticked an option to block short codes?
