Hi, just found that I can't print from my pc. Checked the printer and everything is as it should be and it prints from my Ipad, but my pc can't find the printer although it's there when I go into devices and printers and also into all programmes. Tried everything I can think of to get it to recognise the printer, but no luck. Has anyone any ideas or is it a case of uninstalling it altogether. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 and have a HP Touchsmart 310 pc and a HP Photosmart 5510 all in one printer.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Btw, it's wireless.
Download the printer driver from here:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL39107/mp-108876-3/PS5510_Basicx86_1315.exe

Run the installation program.

Restart your PC.

Cross fingers.
Is the printer connected to the PC via a USB cable or is it trying to connect via WiFi?

If WiFi connection, instead try connecting the printer to a USB port to test if it is recognised via that route.

Also if WiFi, check that the WiFi settings are correctly configured to match the printer WiFi settings.

Also Check via Printer Properties that the Photosmart is set as your default Printer.

Thanks Buenchico, I'll try that, could have lost the drivers I suppose but I don't know how! As you say, fingers crossed.

Hi pinkyboyid, settings are correct and printer is set as default printer, I checked that. Thanks for your answer.

Buenchico, the link you gave me was for 32 bit, I've got 64, sorry should have mentioned that. I did try downloading the drivers earlier, but it wouldn't open. I'll try again.
Just a suggestion because it's happened to me before. Try turning off PC and printer. Then turn on printer and PC in that order. Should re-connect..

I have turned off both pc and printer chrisgel, but not at the same time! I'll try your suggestion if all else fails. Thank you.

Tried downloading drivers, but when I get to the wireless network connection page and click on show network settings is says: unable to retrieve SSID and Password. What now? Going to bed as I've had enough for one day!
Thanks everyone for your help.

Well tried everything suggested, no joy. Lost my printers altogether but managed to get them back on, still not printing. Now when I try to connect it says I don't have an active internet connection.... yes I do! Help!!
A few more things to try!

There is a HP Printer diagnostic program available for download from:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=uk&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/printer_diag/&lang=en&softwareitem=mp-109037-2

Try installing and running the diagnostic.

In conjunction with that, on the printer print out a the configuration settings page as per instructions here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c02863499&lc=en&product=5063582

That page print out, used in conjunction with the diagnostics report, may give some clue as to any network inconsistency conflicts, especially with how the WiFI settings are configured.

You could also try switching off the Windows 7 Firewall temporarily to eliminate any possible network blocking. To do this Select 'Windows Start icon>Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Firewall>Turn Windows Firewall On or Off' then check both options to switch the firewall off.

When you have finished testing, whatever the outcome, remember to repeat the last procedure and Turn the Firewall Back ON!

Hi pinkyboyid, tried the diagnostic programme and everything seemed fine, but where it says connected there is a NO. Is this the problem?

On the scan doctor there are options to do certain things, uninstall, connect to forum etc, but when I click on one of them it insists I'm not connected to the Internet. How frustrating!

On the HP Print and Scan doctor 'product' screen it finds my printer but the connection says USB and not wireless. I've never connected it by USB and haven't even got a cable. How can I change this? Thanks.
It looks as if the network setup on the PC may not be configured correctly to 'talk' to the printer.

Starts to get a bit more technical but here goes....

If you have printed out a configuration page manually from the Printer as per my previous post, take a look at how the wifi is configured. e.g. SSID, Security type (WEP,WPA etc), Network IP Address, Default Gateway. Do they sort of match the diagnostic report?

If you are successfully connected to the Internet on the PC, the next thing is to try 'talking' to the printer via your Web Browser. To do this take a note of the Network IP address number shown on the Printer configuration printout page, for example something like 192.168.0.100.

In your browser address bar enter HTTP://192.168.0.100 (but use whatever the Network address is that you found on the printout page). Doing this will at least prove if the printer is actually 'there' on the same wifi network as your PC!

If it responds, the next thing to try is to switch off your PC Firewall as per my last post.

If this does not work, I think you should next try to connect the printer to your PC via a USB cable and let the system create a new printer queue that will configure automatically for the USB port. Test that it will print via Windows.

If that works you can then convert the USB port to use a WiFI connection.
To this there is some more instructions on the HP site at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02900814&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=5063582

See the section 'Step Two - Prepare for installation.'

The IP Address on the network test result ends in 1.4, on the configuration page it ends in 1.6. Everything else seems to be ok. Did as you suggested and searched the ip address. They do appear to be on the same network as everything on page ticked. Looks as though I'll have to buy a USB cable and try that. Thanks for your help everyone.

Well, after faffing about for the past 2 days I finally had to go buy a USB cable. Eventually I got it to work and can now print from my computer, however... When I try to convert to wireless following the instructions I don't get the message to unplug the USB and when I do I can't print as I'm offline! Don't know what to do next, may have to leave it as I can still print from my Ipad as well as computer, so that's okay.
