Run a virus scan.
Download, install and run some antivirus software.

You've provided absolutely no useful details at all, hence the trite reply...
It may not even be a virus, not all security problems with a computer are viruses.

It may be malware / spyware so run malwarebytes.
download from here free version and run scan.http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Just format your hard drive(s) and throw away all your CDs/DVDs.

> She has no anti virus etc.

Does she leave her front door unlocked at night too...?

> I will tell her to download the free malware website proposed.

No, you need to tell her to download the free ANTI-malware SOFTWARE, not the free malware website. It's here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

> I understand anti virus protection is available.

Yes it is.

> Can you tell me how this may be obtained.

By download.

Yes again, you have provided NO useful information...
You should've been a dentist Mark ;-)
My solution will remove any virus on your computer just fine.

You'll need more than a malware scan to get virus protection. No matter how much extra it spots, because it's designed to spot the bits AV isn't bothered with.

There are a number of free AV on the Net. Use a search engine to look AVG free, it's one commonly recommended, if you can get past the 'paid for trial period' links on their website, that is.
this is a free anti virus program just to download just click on this link and follow on. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/security-essentials-download
is that markrae always so rude or is it just me thinking it ? his replys are very rude this is a site for ppl to help other ppl not be sarky
Mark is Mark. From what I've seen he has a lot of useful information he will pass on, but has a low tolerance for situations where he doesn't think the other party is helping and so can be quite abrupt.
