Hi

I seem to have a problem with my security centre. I run XP and have SP2 but since I have had the computer the Security Centre has always said this:

Security Essentials
The security Centre is currently unavailable because the "Security Centre" service has not started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (Or start the "Security Centre" service), and then open the Security Centre again.

As far as the Security Centre not being started or it being stopped all I had done was click on control panel and security centre.I've done what it says above and I have also been on Microsoft's website and tried to download SP2 but it says I currently have it. Am I missing something?

Please help! :o)

Kind Regards

See if the security centre service is running: right click My Computer > manage > go to services and applications > services then look for Security Centre. Has the service started? If not you can highlight it and start it (or right click it and start it). The startup type should be Automatic (which means it should automatically start when the computer is started). If it is automatic and hasn't started then go to the event viewer > system and see if there are any errors leading it not to start.

Oh j2buttonsw THANK YOU!!!!!! I did as you said and it now works!! thank you so much. I have put this off since discovering that it wasn't working right as I was totally unsure of what to do. I never even knew that you could right click on my computer like that! you've opened up a whole new world for me :o)

I would add another 100 * 's against your name if I could!

You are very kind: right clicking opens up the "contextual menu" which is nearly how I do all my work. I don't know how Macs only have one clicker!
