I have an ipod thats relatively new. Not sure which model it is but it currently operates on the IOS 5 software. I have not used it for about 8 weeks and it shows the number 45 on the crner of the app icon, obviously meaning they need updating.

I tried to click on update all but it just pops up with 'CANNOT UPDATE AS THERE IS NOT ENOUGH AVAILABLE LOCAL STORAGE TO DOWNLOAD THESE ITEMS. YOU CAN MANAGE YOUR LOCAL DEVICE STORAGE USAGE IN SETTING. Then gives two options, DONE or SETTINGS. I clicked on settings but it doesn't do anything.

I have manually updated a few of them one by one but not all of them, does anyone know what this means?

It can't be that the gb space has ran out?

Thanks

When you click Update All, it will down load all the new updates together. You simply don't have enough unused space to do this as both the old anew versions of the apps will be on your ipod at the same time. Doing them one at a time will solve it. After you have done a few, try the update all again, you might have enough space then.
Milvus is right. It may be easier to manage you Apps, etc. through iTunes. It will also show you how much space you have left on your iPod.
