I can't for the life of me remember how to do this.

Have a spread sheet with tons of figures. I want it to automatically highlight all minus figures.

Any clues?

Select the cells, right click and select Format Cells... from the menu, and the first tab is Number - make sure that they use the Number category and select how you want negative numbers to be formatted.
Conditional formatting.

Where exactly you'll find the option depends on the version of excel, in 2010 it's on the home tab.

Oh god, how easy! Thanks Bibble.
The conditional formatting route that Chuck suggests does give you a lot more options for how you want them displayed, if a simple change to red isn't sufficient.
Question Author
The red is fine, does exactly what I wanted. Just to highlight where we are losing money!

There's an awful lot of red on this sheet. :(
oh dear, i won't be trying to cadge any money off you (and i should have put that you could use the Currency category if you want the currency symbol, e.g. £, included in each cell bnecause that also includes the 'negative in red' format)
Question Author
Thankfully it's not my personal account. Not that it would look any less red.
