Hi all - Do you have any advice on what the best freely available cd ripping software is?

Ideally I would like something that rips from cd to mp3, and also tags the tracks.

Any advice welcome! Thanks.

Try Windows Media Player
The best one I've ever encountered is "freerip mp3" which rips to mp3, gives you the option of different bitrates (sound quality), bypasses ALL disc protections that are on CDs and gets track names etc. via the "freedb" online database and saves this info in the tags you mention.
I can't fault it - it's a great piece of software.
I have found Audiograbber really good....dont forget you would have to download a piece of software to allow you to increase the bitrate(quality) of the mp3 also....I use "lame"software for that... i think there is a link in the Audiograbber software for the Lame site....
Audiograbber with the lame encoder.

or even easier, iTunes! iTunes is also faster at ripping from my experience.
I have always found that CDex is the best. It is very user friendly, and rarely encounters any problems. Having said that, I have yet to see how it handles DRM encoded discs.
