Why is my computer so slow now?

I have a Sony Vaio which used to work at light speeds and this week each internet page has slowed down to taking around 30 seconds each page to load which is very frustrating as my computer is essential to my job and hobbies and i am now literally hand tied regarding these uses.

A friend of mine told me that it could be down to the anti viruses fighting each other but i've had Microsoft Essentials and Malwarebytes for some time now without a problem.

I'm not in the business of downloading anything unless i've did this unintentionally.

Is there anyway i can check?

I've ran a basic mse and malwarebytes scan and came up with nothing.

Are these the best protection for my computer?

Is there something free and better which maybe able to uncover this mystery if it is bug or virus related?

I'm not computer literate in anyway so please reply in laymans terms.

Need help or guidance and any is better than nothing so if you can please help asap.

Thank you in advance.

MSE and Malwarebytes are a good combination, and will not normally conflict.

It sounds from your description that the problem appeared suddenly rather than gradually. This, plus the fact that pages load slowly, suggests an internet rather than computer problem. Does the computer respond normally when offline - say, using a word processor or database, viewing photos etc?

As a first step, what results do you get if you try an internet speed test at

http://www.speedtest.net/

Wait for the map to appear then click 'BEGIN TEST'.
Sometimes, because of the larger image on the landing page of the site takes longer time to load the page. However if you want to protect your computer from the virus then malware bytes and ESET NOD32 are the best software to protect the computer.
