USB Port is playing up

Recently, my USB port has been playing up.  I use Windows XP and so have the little sounds to tell my when a device is recognised and when one is disconnected.  What happens is that without warning, the computer will not recognise the device on the USB port and makes the device unuseable.  Sometimes merely unplugging and replugging it in will make it work again, if not a restart is needed.  I did have a 4 port USB hub installed and it didn't work for that as well as when it is without.  I think it's software.  Do I need a new driver?  What can I do?  It is especially frustrating since it will recognise my printer then instantly disconnect it each time I plug in the cable.

hi xaniac

Have you tried switching to another usb port.

You could also uninstall the printer and reinstall (assuming you have the printers set up disk). Go to START,CONTROL PANEL,ADD/REMOVE progs/hardware

You could try this before anything. Go to the manufacturers website and check for driver updates. You may even get an update from microsofts driver database
