Every morning I open my email Yahoo, my fabebook and another website that I like. It can take 5 or more minues to get them up and running. I never switch them off and come and go all day. If I have been away for a few hours, I can usually read whatever window is open but when I try to move between the others, the sandtimer appears and nothing moves. Even Control Alt Delete sometimes refuses to work so I have to pull out a big plug and put the thing off. PC is 5 years old but I am reluctant to replace it as it could be a slow Broadband. I have BT Total. Any advice please?

Check if your telephone exchange has been upgraded by BT to fibre optics As a BT customer for the last 5 years or so I have quite recently switch to BT Infinity fibre optic broadband which has speeded up my broadband by more than 20 times. It was about 1.5mbs its now about 34mbs.
And it only cost a fiver a month more than my old BT Total package, hope this helps...

surely if control/alt/delete doesnt work its not a broadband speed issue..my previous works PC had a similiar problem and it was down to IE running at 100% (in task manager) which then stopped any other program working.
It isn't your broadband if ctrl+alt+del doesn't work. It may be time to buy a new PC.

Thanks all
its a programme issue, certainly not time to bin the PC worst case scenario restore back to factory settings.
In the mean time when its playing up open task manager(which may take a while ,just be patient) go to processes and see whats using the CPU, the chances are theres something in there running at 100% ,could be an anti malware/virus programme even(happened to me), it may be possible to disable it...
By the way im with Orange my broadband at the moment is 1.5mbs and that doesnt give me any problems on day to day surfing the net.
Could also be you have too many processes running at the same time, you may need to slim down how many applications start up when Windows boots up.
