Can anyone remember how to exclude words from Google search results?

There's something you can type into your search.

Say, for example, I don't want any results containing the words "Amazon" or "eBay" or "United States"

Are you using Firefox JJ ??
Could be something to do with that rather than Google itself. Probably the Add-ons
Put a minus sign in front of it.

There is always plenty of help around for rthis sort of thing, see here the Googel help on search

Firefox, yes.
put the minus sign before the words you want excluded...

So searching 'fluffy pussy cat ebay' would find anything with all those words....

Searching for 'fluffy pussy cat -ebay' would find anything with fluffy pussy cat that doesn't contain ebay.

The minus sign needs to have a space before it but no space after it.
Except I was in such a hurry to write my answer I filled it with spelling mistakes.

Googel !
Wow...didn't know that :-)
Simply put a minus sign in front of the word you don't want. If it's a string of words (such as 'United states') put the string between double quotation marks and put the minus sign in front of the string. (Without the minus sign quotation marks force the inclusion of a term.

Example 1:
joggerjayne brighton
will find pages with either 'joggerjayne' or 'brighton' in them

Example 2:
"joggerjayne" brighton
will find pages which MUST contain 'joggerjayne' and MIGHT also contain 'brighton'

Example 3:
"joggerjane" -brighton
will find pages which MUST include your name but NOT your home town

Example 4:
"joggerjayne" -"night club"
will find pages which MUST have your name but which EXCLUDE 'night club'.

Ahaaaah ... thank you, guys. x x x
Sorry!
I've made a spelling error with your username in ex.3 but I hope my meaning is clear anyway!
Question Author
LOL Chris ...

Did you "just happen" to use the words "night club" as an example?

=0D
I imagine searching for "joggerjayne" -"night club" would produce no results at all

You'd get loads of results containing...

Joggerjayne and bar
Joggerjayne and casino

etc etc.....
So this is why I struggle to find things on google :-)
