In the UK its costs about 7,500 ($14,300 US) to obtain a Private Pilot's Licence for a piston engine helicopter. How much is the equivalent in the US?

The average is about $3,500.  It depends on the equipment (aircraft) one wishes to fly and whether or not it's an approved flight school or an individual flight instructor (both can be equally as good). It could be done for as little as $2,500, but that would be unusual.  Additonally, there are minimum flight times required, but most private pilot students don't qualify at the minimum times.  It usually takes perhaps 5 to 10 hours more...
Ooops, gotta learn to read the question... Oh! Helicopters... same minimum times apply but the cost will be in the neighborhood of $8,000 to perhaps $10,000, again, dependent on a number of factors...
