install correct plug keeps appearing after ive installed it!

whenever i try to watch somethng online it tells me i need a plug in - xvid, and to download it...i have now downloaded and installed it about 12 times...but it still keeps popping up across the top of the screen telling me i need to install it!

why wont it work? why doesnt the computer realise its there?

im on firefox and win7...2gb ram, 120 gb hard drive
