I am downloading the updates but none are successful. From 13th to today all show 'failed'. Starts 'Downloading 72 important updates' All seems well until I get 'Configuring windows updates. Failure configuring windows updates. Reverting changes. Shutting down' Using AVG 9 security, scan shows 2 Trojan horses 'Generic 18.AEEL in the Nero file. Any ideas welcome. TIA

Download and run in Safe Mode MalwareBytes which should remove your infections.I would use Avast Free Antivirus instead of AGV as it has not a good record of virus detection of late. Once you have sorted your infections out you should run a repair of your updates which should allow you to reinstall them again and also install SP1.
