if someone sends me an email with a read receipt on it how do i check that i get an alert advising me of this ? thanks

Send yourself a email with a read receipt?

Or check in your oulook options that prompt before sending receipt is enabled (It would be possible to give precise directions on where to find the option if you said what version of outlook)
