ADDRESS BOOK TRANSFERS!

I have been using an ancient Forte Agent email program for about 10 years.
I have finally decided to start using the newest version which I have downloaded and set up and is working really well - I should have upgraded years ago!! Anyway - my query is ...how do you transfer the address book in the OLD version to the new one?
When you export it - it only saves it in a txt format but then when you try to import that into the new version - it isn't having any!!! It wants it in another format - and I am lost - utterly!! As I have about 250 address to move over - eeeeek!! Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
