Memory card for Panasonic camera

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 camera. In the instruction manual it states that the largest SDHC memory cards that it can be take are 4GB - which I use.

What would happen if I tried to use an 8GB (or higher) card? Is there some technical reason why the camera would not allow pictures to be transferred onto a higher capacity card?

I very much doubt it will only work with upto 4GB cards....

But if you were to buy it from somewhere that states the card is for that camera at least you could return it if it doesn't work.

The camera instructions are misleading. What they're actually trying to say is that if you need to use a 4Gb (OR HIGHER) card, it MUST be SDHC (not SB).

The fact that you can use an SDHC card with MORE than 4Gb of memory is implied in this sentence:
"You can only use an SDHC Memory Card if using cards with 4 GB or more capacity".

Thanks Chuck. I have just read the manual a little more carefully and now see it says I can use a 4GB or more provided it is an SDHC card - not an SD card.
Only had the camera 4 years, thought I would have noticed that by now!

And thank you Buenchico, that's what I have been misreading all these years.
