I ve been awaiting an answer to my post of a few days ago cocerning tape - PC transfer
and wonder if I can get some advise. Could someone explain what an MSVCP 90 is as a window keeps popping up which says, `quote` "This application has failed to start because MSVCP 90 was not found, Re-installing the app may fix this problem". end quote.
How can I re-install it if I don`t know what it is? Please give a free link if possible. TIA

I`ll be a little late getting up Trimeresurus, but will be there.....God willing.
You can Google it. I found this http://www.optimize-y...ing-msvcp90-dll-error

I think I'd want to find out what is runing and complaining first though.

Thanks OG, I`ll have a go in the morrow when I feel less tired. G`night, I`m wacked.
Aaagh!

The dreaded 'missing dll' message!

dll (dynamic link library) files are like tiny programs which work within much bigger programs. They have a nasty habit of going missing!

You need to get a file called mscvp90.dll into the right place on your computer. There's a whole page here which suggests lots of possible solutions:
http://pcsupport.abou...und-missing-error.htm

That page (for sound reasons) warns against simply trying to download the file you want and putting it into the correct place on your PC. I would certainly recommend that you try reinstalling the software which you're attempting to use for the tape-to-PC transfer before you do anything else. However (despite the advice on that page) I've solved many 'missing dll' problems by simply downloading the relevant file from a reputable source.

So, if you're prepared to follow the same path which I would (rather than follow the 'ultra-safe' advice on that page), click this link:
http://www.dll-files....l-files.shtml?msvcp90
Then (importantly!) ignore all the prominent links and click on the (much smaller) link labelled "Or you can Download msvcp90.dll here".
Then click on "Download msvcp90.dll"
Check that 'Save file' is selected in the dialogue box, and click 'OK'
Navigate to where you'd like to save the file. (I suggest clicking the little downward arrowhead next to the 'Save in' box, and selecting 'Desktop'). Click 'Save'.
Go to the location of the file you've just downloaded (which, if you've followed my advice, will be your desktop). Y
You'll see an icon labelled 'mscvp90'. Double-click on it.
A window will open, with two files shown. Right-click on 'mscvp90.dll' and select 'copy'.
Now find your way to this location:
C:\WINDOWS\system32
(That means double-clicking on the icon for your hard drive, double-clicking on 'Windows' and then double-clicking on 'System32').
You'll probably see a message stating that the files are hidden. Click on the option to show the files in that folder. Then right-click within that folder, and select 'Paste'.
Hopefully, that will have done what you want.
Cross you fingers, restart your PC and try using the transfer program again.

Chris

(PS: you can then delete the file on your desktop)

Good Morrow one and all, I am doing OG`s link 1st and it`s doing a `Free Scan` and of course finding many things that require attention, and I expect I will have to purchase a tool o repair `things`. Should I ignore or buy?
I wouldn't run the program from OGs link! I never trust any "scanner" from an unknown source!

Reinstalling visual c++ should fix the problem. this is the link to the official microsoft site for it.

Chuck, half way through downloading a small window appeared stating that a problem had appeared and they had to close. Now what??
Question Author
After two hours looking at all the different links, my poor old nut is about to explode, so I think I`ll have to get someone in who knows what it`s all about and do it for me. Blow the expence. I really appreciate all the help you`ve given me. Many thanks, especially to Chris who typed out a whole page.
Yeah my link was just for data. Came near the top of a google search.

As mentioned a reinstallation of whatever is supposed to supply that file (the run time "visual c++" presumably) should sort it without paying someone a fortune.
