imovie uploading exporting

Its been a while since I have used imovie, its on an old lap top I have don't use anymore I have done my movie its about 1.5gb I have 2gb I can upload to youtube so thats fine but when I put the movie on to an extenal harddrive or memery stick to move over to my laptop with internet when I get the file there it says the file is not compatible and not readible without filters. So I have tried to move the whole file including project file on to new laptop but no again. Problem might be I am moving a apple file to a windows computer? Any help would be great
