You can germinate the seeds but I always get the little plug plants. They need enough room between each plant, decent support (canes are best) and must be picked every day to promote growth. Beautiful scent and lovely coours. A must for my garden. Night x

Best are plug plants , on my local market they are 8 for £1.00 ! a bargain ... so much easier than doing them from seeds x
B&Q do a tray of sweet peas (think there are 12 in a tray) for £3:50 or 3 trays for £9.
We have lots of Sweet peas they smell fantastic! not sure how easy they would be to grow from seed though!
Sweet Peas are easy to grow from seeds, just tap the shell lightly to break, then soak in water, for a couple of hours, then plant in to pots/trays etc,the will be through in a bout a week, the ones from garden centres are fine but can be easily broken when trying to seperate the roots, they can also be spindly?
PS I have been growing sweet peas for about 15years,they are beautiful, when buying look for the ones that are highly scented, from a keen gardener,my garden is more than an acre.
Yes we do - not every year - but when we do I am always pleased. I have nowhere suitable to chit seeds so I always buy them part-grown, Tesco or Homebase.
Absolute doddle. I stick any old seeds in some compost. I don't do anything fancy with them. Think I've got about 30 plants. I put them by the back door and let the evening scent seep into the house.
(I find you can get a much better choice of colour if you grow from seed)
love sweet peas but I bet you don't plant yours on St Pat's Day - do you have a special day in the north ??

I'm with pixi - I just throw the seeds over a border, cover with a bit of soil, water and leave. They provide a riot of colour and scent
