Internet access closes down. "Do you want to report this problem?"

My internet access keeps shutting down and I get a message along the lines of " There is a problem with this application and it has to close down. Do you want to report this problem?"
Can somebody please explain whether it is worth clicking the YES button to report the problem, and to whom it is reported? And more importantly, does the anonymous technical department at the other end ever do anything about it?

Generally speaking, there is not a direct outcome to you reporting the problem. A crash report is sent to Microsoft or whoever the software vendor is. These reports are used to generate usage statistics and highlight areas of weak or unstable code so that if the problem is related to the software itself, it can be addressed. I suspect this is a problem with your installation however, and that either the program itself or something on your computer is causing this to happen.

What program are you using to access the internet? How often does it crash with this message and does it seem to crash when you perform a particular action or when you visit a particular site?
Browsers crashes are almost always caused by a bad plg-in or add-on, rarely by a problem with the browser itself.

You've not said what browser you are having problems with, but both IE and firefox have the option to run the in safe mode (with all add-ons disabled)

For firefox click start > all programs > Mozilla Firefox > and there should be an option for firefox (safe mode)

For IE click start > accessories > system tools and select internet explorer (no add-ons)

try running what ever browser you are having problems with in safe mode, if that solves your problems then you need to start disabling all the add-ons for the browser one by one until you find the one that's causing the problem.
