Transferring BT Broadband to a new home

A friend of mine has recently moved from her own house into rented accommodation in a different town. She has BT Broadband and is certain that her new home has an existing BT line. She thinks she will be able to keep her current BT email address.
Does anyone know how long it will take BT to get her new broadband up and running, assuming that she has already given them notice that she is moving and details of her old and new addresses?

I think this "Moving Home" page from BT Broadband may answer your questions?

Thanks for that Mr Veritas. I had already waded through the BT site and looked at those pages. What I was really after was someone's experience of actually going through the procedure.
If your friend has given sufficient notice to BT and there is definitely a BT line enabled at her new house she may well be up and running on the day she moves in.The whole process does not usually need an engineer to come out unless requested (and paid for) by the customer. She will be able to keep her existing email address as it isn't tied to your friend's PC or current home address at all.
I moved house 3 years ago and thought I'd made all the arrangements to transfer my existing services. No problem with the phone service......my old line was disconnected and new one reconnected at the exact time requested. What a shame about the broadband.......allegedly my new phone line had to be up and running for the broadband to be added 28 days later. I went absolutely mad and after speaking to a supervisor managed to get connected after about 10 days. They then started me on a new contract at my new address and incorrectly charged me for the residual of my old broadband's minimum term....this was quickly sorted out in one phone call. The sad thing is I'm a BT pensioner!!
by the way as daffy says you do keep your email addy etc...
In theory you should be able to transfer your broadband from one address to another pretty much seamlessly, and on odd occasions it does actually work like that.

More often though you will find out in practice that, because you are dealing with BT, who have now split themselves down into several smaller companies that appear to have no decent lines of communication between themselves that it will all go wrong. Each department will then blame the other one for the mistakes and it will take days, if not weeks of phone calls to get it sorted out.

Welcome to the joys of dealing with BT, Good luck!
