Perhaps he thinks it's a defence. If he's charged with knowingly smuggling drugs (illegal) his idea is it's a defence to say " No. I wasn't knowingly carrying drugs through(ilegally).I thought I was knowingly carrying diamonds (illegally)"!

Its obvious that he knows his numbers up and diamonds are a much lower sentece then drugs.He knew exactly what the deal was and that story is'nt going to wash with no one,especially not the venezuelan authorities that have heard every ''intelligent'' trick in the book,as well as all the stupid excuses such as this one!
