Hi there pug 100 can the info you gave me concerning audio to cd be used onto a laptop?I've tried but there doesn't seem to be any recognition of the out put from the tapeplayer to the laptop!!!! I'm using Windows media player prog. Thanks.

Can you explain more when you say no recognition of the audio source on the laptop?
Don't bother with win media player it only plays media and has no ability to record which is why it isn't working. You need audio recording software such as Audacity which I provided a link to.


If you install audacity and run the software, connect the tape deck / hifi to the line in on the laptop then start to record you should see a waveform appear in the timline window in Audacity.

Any probs I'll look in again an a day or two.

Hi there pug 100 that info for the laptop was only a standby until I could get my tape player upstairs to my PC.I,ve tried transferring my audio to pc but when I"save as" it only does it as data,so I am unable to play it back.Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong please!!!

Hi,
Yes the save as will save the project in Audacity format so you can continue working on it at a later time.
You want to save the audio it's EXPORT AS..and choose either Wav or Mp3. Both of these are audio formats recognised by most computers. As I said before if you don't already have the Lame 3 codecs you will need to install these first before Audacity will save in mp3 format. There is a link to where you can download these from

If you need to play the resulting files on an audio system you will need a further conversion process usually handled by Nero and other cd burning software. For this you need to choose create an audio cd from the starting menu and follow the on screen instructions. Mostly it's a very easy drag n drop system to add the audio files one at a time.
