It is a 2Wire 2700HG-B. It works ok most of the time, but once every 80 minutes it drops the internet connection. The DSL light stays green, the internet one goes red. I have to reboot the router, then it's ok. Is there anything I can do to stop this? Driving me nuts.

is it exactly once every 80mins? seems strange it would be so precise, that would indicate that either the service provider is dropping the connection after a certain time or there is something causing interference nearby that is making line noise and the connection drops

If the router is just randomly dropping the connection things to try are, connecting router direct to master socket not an extension, if you have to use an extension make sure it's a good quality one and installed properly, it's also often worth changing the rubbish ADSL line filter that came with the router to a decent one, ADSLnation make about the best filters.

If you can get to the admin pages if the router have a look round for the line details, the figure to look for is the SNR margin, generally the higher the better for this figure but anything over 6db should be ok, below 6db and there is a good chance the line will be unstable.

finally 2wire routers are not generally considered to be that good at hanging onto a connection on noisy lines, netgears are considered to be among the best for this.

thanks very much, marky.
It's just around 80 mins, variable though. I do have a low grade filter, I will try changing that. Maybe it's dropping during attempted incoming calls?
The Noise margins are 11.0 dB (Downstream), 19.0 dB (Upstream), so I suppose that's ok.
Maybe it's time I upgraded from 2 wire.
I used it when I had a 512k service, nothing ever ever ever went wrong with it. I got no internet (DSL OK) when I upgraded to 8mbs (ie: 2), but managed to get it working when I changed router settings to PPoA from PPoE and a couple of other things (Vmux etc). So I got it working but now it drops intermittently. The drops so far have cost me over 100 quid, maybe I should upgrade :)
