Hi,
I have a fairly new website business which we have paid a considerable amount for it to be designed really well. Every time we want to change somehting minor or come up against something that is a stumbling block our web designer wants to charge us an extortionate amount to change or modify something. For example we have discovered that the banner size he has put on is different from the industry standard and therefore precludes us from using affiliate schemes. He is hapy to change it but yes you guessed it for a fee......in short he has got us over a barrell. He know's full well we can't write IHTP or PHP so we ae snookered. I know we can move our hosting package from him and get our log in details but just don't know where to start looking for someone reasonable and trustworthy. Any suggestions? Thanks very much

Not sure I understand either your problem or your question. The banner that people link to is not necessarily the banner that's shown on your site. But why would you expect him for free? Do you?
Sorry, that should have read "why would you expect him to work for free?"

I'm also not clear why you want to move your hosting; web design and maintenance is not normally tied to a particular host.
Decent web host: dreamhosts.com, or web-mania.com. Really great hosts: joyent.com.

But that's hosting. Nothing to do with the general operation of the website, just the hardware storage issue for the site.

Perhaps you should look into using Wordpress or similar as a backend to the site? But, you'd need to know some web technologies to do this, or pay someone else to do it for you.

Rojash I don't expect him to work for free however I would have expected the basics to be integrated into the site. Perhaps I haven't explained myslef well. He is the web hoster as well as the designer. We hope to make money from advertisemnets on the site but until we have enough hits to aproach customers direct it would have been useful to use affiliate schemes which we can't do as the stock banner sizes availble to upload [through Tradedoubler for example] are totally different from the size of banner he has designed. Is that any clearer?
What kind of business website is this?

A website with adverts from affiliate links doesn't look very reputable. Sounds like a bad idea to me.
