I am new to a wireless pc - can anyone tell me if I need to disable the wireless if I am not on the internet? Such as if I am using word or looking into explorer? If I disable it what is the best way to reinstate the wireless? Might sound a dumb question, but as I said I'm new to the system.

No, you don't need to disable it (any more than you need to turn off your mobile when you're not using it).
The only time you need to disable wireless really is if you are going on a plane or have your firewall turned off for any reason.

I have an Acer laptop and the wireless switch is an amber led light at the front. I don't know if your laptop has such a switch.

Thanks rojash and Ethel. Feel a lot happier now as I wasn't sure if I was secure or not, even though I've got firewall etc.
