waste dropped on highway

when farm contracters are hauling farm waste (muck)
in huge amounts do it have to be covered, and when it is dropped on the highway who clears it up?

Highways department are the people who look after the roads, they are attached to the local council. I reported a similar thing last year as the road on the way to my sisters was covered in mud from the farmer and was wet and slippy. Nothing ever happened they said they would send someone out to look, but it was never cleaned up. However if it is something which is bothering you and others I would keep on at the Highways department to do something about it. Unfortunately a lot of the time farmers seem to be able to do what they like and not be pulled up on it.

thanks kaztuz exactly the same happens here except that then the "Farmers" harass us in retaliation by blocking the lane at awkward times.
Do not expect any help from the "council" they are only interested in raking the council tax in.

The Farm contractors have a responsibility to make sure the roads are left in a reasonable, safe condition, ie. any muck should be cleared by them. If they don't clear it then Highways have the right to do it and charge the contractor.

Anybody using mechanical equipment on public roads has this same responsibility.

You are right kaztuz - farmers get away with an awful lot that the rest of us would be penalised for - but don't get me started on that subject.................
