Is there any way I can set my iphone up, to give me an audible signal, when I have received a new email ?

there must be as Mr bednobs' phone does it ALL THE BLOODY TIME

Try - Settings - Sounds - New Mail. Choose sound.

Or. Settings - Notifications - Mail - Allow notifications - Sounds. Choose sound
