In the address bar of IE there are three icons search, drop down arrow(which reveals internet history) and refresh.
Where is the internet history stored so that it can be deleted?
Have deleted the temporary internet files under the tools icon but the history stored there predates that.

when you go int 'delete history ' you should get options such as last day, past week, past month, all time
Sorry- my answer related to Chrome. For IE click on the COG image, select internet options. In the ' browsing history' bit select settings then go down to the History area at the bottom and you are asked to select the number of days to keep pages in history. Then delete the history.
I just typed in 600 days for example and it accepted that
internet options also gives you a tick box to 'delete browsing history on exit'
Agreed- my answer only dealt with how to delete those older ones

currently set at zero - so shouldn't be storing anything ?

It seems these web pages are internet shortcuts( they appear in the recycle bin when deleted) but still cant delete them all.
Question Author
Ouch - those internet shortcuts are actually favourites - was deleting them individually and then noticed a lot of favourites were being deleted too - life is a learning curve.
Now how to restore an emptied recycle bin - anyone know how?
Go to your recycle bin and restore items.
