I would like to secure my BT wireless router to a shelf. Is it safe to drill through the base-plate? (i.e. are there any electronic parts within the base-plate?). Thanks.

Why not stick it to a small piece of board with glue or strong double sided tape, and then screw the board to the shelf?
command strips are brilliant. They hold well and remove easily

bluetack on base thats what i use
Don't drill the base you should find that the base has provision for it to be attached using clips or use double sided tape
