Mushroom25, you won't find many poppies on display in Quebec. There's a lot of anti-English sentiment festering in that disgruntled section of the country.
odd that those pesky quebecois should associate poppies with the english - they were inspired by "in flanders fields" by canadian lt.col john macrae, and first worn by an american, moina michael. they were first taken to europe by a french woman, madame guerin, the royal british legion came late to the party.

Led by Henri Bourassa, they felt their only loyalty was to Quebec. English Canadians generally supported the war effort as they felt stronger ties to the British Empire.[1] The Conscription Crisis of 1917 caused a considerable rift along ethnic lines between Anglophones and Francophones.[1]"
