I have changed over to Chrome and most of those annoying problems that I used to have on IE have disappeared, so I am much happier.

However ::::::

The spell checker seems to be set on American English ( an oxymoron if ever there was ) I have tried changing over to proper English but it keeps saying that "This isn't supported)

Does anybody know why we can't use proper English and is there any way around it ?

I have had the same problem and followed your advice. However, when selecting English (non US) it says cannot be used for spell checking.

I agree....so does anybody know why non US can't be used for spell checking ?

Say what you like about Internet Explorer, it never had this problem. If Chrome is to taken seriously, it needs to be addressed.
do you not have English (United Kingdom)?
Yes, but it cannot be used for spell checking.

Thanks bibs ( yet again ! )

I have just found out that you can add English (United Kingdom) in Settings.

Lets test it shall we ?

Colour

Opps...didn't work...says it should be Color.

Back to the drawing board !
With my copy of Chrome 'English' cannot be used for spell checking but 'English (United Kingdom)' can be used for spell checking.
Question Author
Ahh !

Chrome needs to be stopped and restarted apparently. Will do and report back ASAP !
and a quick check shows that it passes the colour test.
Question Author
Colour ...it works !

Thanks bibs.
Good grief!
I didn't bother to put every single step, as I thought it would be obvious!
If you have English UK listed, click it and set it as the default.
If you don't have it, choose Add.

Thanks rojash, always helpful, but its not quite as simple as that. I have checked my spellchecker, and it works fine in English UK .

However, when I go into Settings, the cross is still opposite American English, hence the slight confusion. Not sure why the cross isn't opposite English UK, if that is the one I have chosen. It seems that we need to test it to see if the changes that we have made have been accepted. Very peculiar.

Also there is a 3rd option, just called English... what's this then ? Martian English ?

Never had this particular problem with IE...it was always clear as a bell.
The cross should only be visible when you mouse over a particular language.
It's not telling you the default language, it's there so that you can delete an unused language (you click on the cross) !
The selected language is the one with a darker background. It won't have a cross because you can't delete the selected language.
