While looking on Answer-Bank I often find everything goes blank, I then turn computer off, re-start and things are back to normal, is there anything I can do to stop this happening

Why do you 'turn-off' your computer? Cannot you just exit AB and then try re-entering to see what happens?

Have a try and then report back with full details; including the Browser you are using, Operating System (Windows XP, Vista W7 or whatever) along with the make and model of the computer on which you have a problem.

I feel sure that if you do as I have suggested a real Techie will respond.
