Can anyone tell me what software I need which will accept the name of a company or thing, and get rid of it without me seeing it? I donthave the time to waste deleting the messages from the already 'deleted' box which is where suspected spam goes. I would prefer a freebie.

Grateful thanks to anyone who can positively help.

Not really, because you've not told us what software you are using to read your mail.

Most mail clients have an option to automatically clear the deleted items when you close them though.
If you're using a proper mail client (such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird or Windows Live Mail), rather than web-based access, Mailwasher can prevent unwanted mail from being downloaded from you mail provider's server:

Just use Thunderbird with the adaptive junk mail control on .. and add a few mail rules.
I think it's a lot easier myself messing around with Mailwasher .. I gave up on that 3 years ago.
What's so time consuming about clicking 'empty' on your deleted box? It takes seconds....
