Just as important to report it, as if a gas leak, if I were you, could be dodgy gas valve, ring the number on meter.
Contact your energy supplier and ask them why you are getting erratic readings.

Got a £600 bill from an alleged reading on 5th July.

If their supposed reading is correct why is my reading 88888.888 wrong ?
£600 for a quarterly bill? do you live in a mansion?
Gas valves can get partly clogged over time, and the regulation of the gas can sometimes be erratic, low or high, if no gas smells not much to worry about until the inspector comes, there again it could just be a broken clock.

The bill was from an alleged reading eon took 5th July.

Sent e mails to unhappy at eon next, ceo at eon next.

Have requested under freedom of info act 2000 all readings from last 12 years to establish consumption pattern
Have a look at your last bill - what is the reading on that?

Smash the display.

When meter replaced, steal it from the van.

Meter not been read for 2 years. I have a consumption history but need previous 10 years.
The Freedom of Information Act gives citizens the right to request information held by public bodies, not private companies. Still, if you have been with the same supplier for 12 years there is no reason why they shouldn't give the previous readings as far as their records allow.

I have e-mailed national grid with pics showing 88888.888 asking if that confirms a faulty meter.

With a mileage of 88888.888 time for a new model, I doubt you will get much on part exchange.
Still look at the last bill and tell us what their estimated reading is

The digital display fluctuates . The 8 pixels move around so a 5 can become an 8, etc.
