They'll be so dry that you shouldn't be surprised if you have no eyebrows left when you light up.
Not a smoker so can not answer this question fully, but have been told they do dry out and get stale, so do not expect them to be their normal flavoursome self.
If you bought them abroad you'll probably be smoking camel dung and straw.

tamborien, isn't that what cigs are, dried tobacco ?
Tobacco products are all made with a certain amount of moisture in the tobacco. If it's fully dried out, a tip is to put a slice of raw potato or cucumber in an airtight tub together with the tobacco, making sure they don't touch each other. After a couple of days, the tobacco will have absorbed enough moisture to seem fresh.
I wonder what it would taste like if you followed heathfield's advice but instead of a cucumber, use a wee drop of the amber liquid!

Gosh, sometimes I regret having given up!
Like a gents' toilet? - or was it a different sort of amber liquid you were contemplating?

No what you are experiencing is the untimely death of your tastebuds.
