I have recently purchased a midi keyboard to use with the garage band programme on my IMac which uses a USB connection and it works fine. I noticed that it has a 5 pin midi outlet plug on the back and I would like to know whether it is possible to connect this to an amplifier so that I can play the keyboard independent of the computer

Can anyone advise me whether I can purchase a lead that connects the the Midi outlet socket direct to a jackplug or whether I need another piece of kit to go between the keyboard and my amplifier.

Any help would be much appreciated

Not MIDI no, MIDI is used to connect to any other MIDI enabled device or instrument, it's not an audio output.

If it has a headphone socket or any form of audio output on it you can use that to connect to an amp.
