I'm having my computer upgraded to Windows 7 in a few days' time. I'm told I'll have to have a user's licence - how do I go about getting this, please?
Also, when it's done will I have to start from scratch and sign in to sites like AB again?

The license comes with the disk you buy to install windows7

And you don't need to sign up again, you will just have to sign in again by entering your username (tearinghair) and your password (I can't tell you that one)

Whos' upgrading it?
Normally they would by a copy (including the licence) and install it, so you would pay them for the licence.

"when it's done will I have to start from scratch and sign in to sites like AB again?"
If you mean will you need to create a new account for AB, no. If you mean will you get automatically signed in, that will depend on the way in which the upgrade is installed. If it's actually run as an upgrade, then nothing should have changed. If it's done as a clean install it will depend on whether the person doing the job does a files and settings transfer.
Sounds like the OP is having it upgraded by a third party, who happens to have a Win7 disc.
Your post wasn't there when I started, Chuck...

Thanks for your prompt answers - sorry not to have responded earlier.
My son will be doing the upgrade, bringing the disk etc from USA ready to install. I think that's why he said I'd need to get a licence.
If you've go to get a license then you may as well buy and install it from a English windows 7 disk.

There is very probably no difference between a USA and a UK disk TBH, (never checked that one) but you are going to have to buy the disk to get a license and it makes more sense to use the license that comes with the physical disk.

Right, many thanks.
If your son is bringing the disc from the USA to install make sure that it is a genuine copy and that it hasn't been used before and is not an OEM copy. You shouldn't have to buy a licence it comes with the genuine disc. It should activate over the net after install if it is the real thing. We use USA discs here in Australia there is no difference between the versions as you set your region codes etc. when you install it.

Thanks everybody. I checked with him, and he said I would have to get the disk here - I'd misunderstood originally. So I have it and am waiting to see whether he'll make it through the snow!
