Whenever I try to update to Adobe Flashplayer 10.1 It says that Mozilla Firefox must be closed first. What does that mean? Do I have to uninstall Firefox?

Just exit from Firefox so that it is no longer running. Don't uninstall it.
No it just means you need to close Firefox whilst Adobe updates the Flash player.

Thanks, folks. If by closing Firefox you mean clicking on the red cross at top right and taking it off the screen I do that every time but it makes no difference. Is there a more fundamental way of disabling Firefox?
Then I guess it's still running in the background ...

Start your Adobe update as usual ... Once you're asked to close Firefox,

Press CTRL ALT DEL and select Start Task Manager

Then click the 'Processes' tab on the box.

Find firefox.exe in that list, click it, and then click the End Process button.

Many thanks, Naz. Exactly what I , in my ignorance, wanted. Best wishes.
Glad you got it sorted :-))
