it will almost certainly be office home and student edition, which doesn't have outlook with it.

if you don't like the new windows live mail (I can see your point on that one) try

I bought the Office package (at a reduced price throught work) and was stunned to find it did not include Outlook or mail sytem.
Microsoft class outlook as a business mail package so don't include it in the home editions of office.
Hi FrostySpecs.

Microsoft Office is expensive and you probably don't need it. (It does include Outlook as its email client). Details are here:

You've not stated which operating system your netbook is running but it's likely that you could use Open Office (which is free). It includes a word processor, spreadsheet, database, drawing programs and presentations software:

For a free email client (instead of Outlook Express), simply use Thunderbird (which is out of the same stable as the wonderful Firefox browser):

I assume Chris was writing his reply before I posted mine :)
Chuck has correctly pointed out (while I was typing very slowly, finding links, listening to the radio and drinking lager at the same time!) that there are lots of different editions of Microsoft Office, so my statement that it includes Outlook is not necessarily correct.

However I'm pleased (but totally unsurprised) to see that Chuck has recommended the same email program that I've done ;-)
I really must learn to type faster (or possibly to drink slower), Chuck ;-)
Winodws Live Mail is a free download from Microsoft for mail.

It replaces Outlook Express in Windows 7 (which does not come with a mail system)

Many thanks for all the advice it is Thunderbird for me, tried it last night and works fine for me.
TBH .. You are probably better buying an original Office 2003 from ebay!
(and adding 'File Formal Converters' from Microsoft. Then it will do everything and have Outlook.
Outlook is bulky and rather OTT for average home users tho.
OE is quicker, more simple .. and you still have a folder system.
My choice is Thunderbird : )
Only thing it lacks at the moment is the old Contacts Sidebar.
If you need a calendar .. Install the add-on 'Lightening'https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/
