How do I unsubscribe from MSN messenger ?

I foolishly used my girlfriends computer recently and somehow managed to suscibe to messenger. Now, every time we connect to the internet a "pop up" appears in the corner of the screen to tell me I have messages awaiting. Looked at Hotmail site but cant find way way of getting the "messenger" pop up off the computer.
Any ideas please ?

In Msn, select Tools, Options, then select Sign in. Untick the 2 options that say connect when computer starts and allow automatic signin when connected to the internet.
