I have an HP Pavilion desktop as does my husband. Mine runs perfectly ok but his is so slow. I do have a better processor than him. He is connected to the net via my computer and is covered by my Trend security and he swears that it is my security that is slowing his computer down. I have just discovered that he is running IE firewall interface. Is this likely to be the trouble? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Why does he connect via your computer ? Let him get his own connection to the router and then one can judge where the delay lies properly.

BTW normally only 1 firewall should be running at a time but I'm unsure what the consequences are for one PC connecting via another.

Hi Geez - made a mistake here, I'm not very technical. He does have his own connection. However, I've just been on his computer and it's not just slow, it almost ceases up! I'm sure there is some resistance somewhere.
If your PC is not involved after all, then the problem seems to be with his. Especially since you do not have problems.

He needs to try a malware scan. Try downloading and running this on his PC http://malwarebytes.org/

Make sure he only has one firewall and one anti-virus app running.

Also worth clearing out clutter, try http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

You won't believe how long I've been trying to download the malware and I'm not sure now if it's actually done. Can't see it on the desktop. Will do the piriform c/cleaner. I do my own every so often. Regarding the IE firewall, have been thru the computer and cannot find it anywhere so I assume it was over-ridden by the Trend security, which is not a free one. I think my next move will be HP - I always find them quite good.
Many thanks for your help and still open to any other suggestions, I hate being beaten!
Might be easier/quicker to download to yours, copy to a disk, and thus on to his.
Of course he may have an actual hardware problem.
Look at the task manager and see if anything is hogging the system.
